Roof Installation
At Los Gatos Roofing we own all of our tear off trucks and company foreman vehicles.
Our custom designed trucks allow for daily site clean-up and job efficiency
Tear-Off Procedures
Removal of your existing roofing is the first task performed by our crews. The process usually takes between four and six hours depending upon the size and steepness you your roof.
- All of our tear-offs are done by our own employees
- We will leave the site completely clean of all roofing debris
- We will clean your existing gutters after the tear-off is complete
Spaced Sheathing
Most houses with existing shake roofing or wood shingles were originally built with spaced sheathing.
Spaced sheathing provides an adequate nailing deck for wood shakes or can be used as the substrate for plywood or OSB installations. The openings in the spaced sheathing have allowed your attic to ventilate through the layers of felt and shakes.
Fiberglass Ashalt Composition Shingles
Most shingles use a zinc coated coil nail applied with a pneumatic gun.
One 38" shingle can require up to five fasteners on the designated nailing line.
Certain styles have specific install patterns to follow.
- Shingles are always installed over solid sheathing, plywood/OSB
- ASTM underlayment is required
- All flashing units are replaced and painted during the re roof
- Asphalt shingles always provide a Class "A" fire rating
- Wide varieties of shingles offer many colors, styles and warranty
- Ventilation is important when converting to an asphalt shingle
- Available in two piece laminated and tri-laminate
Concrete and Clay Tile
Both concrete and clay tile are available in lightweight, specifically designed for re roofing.
Product weight usually does not exceed 600 pounds per square.
- Tile is always installed over solid sheathing
- A double underlayment of Type 30 ASTM felt is recommended
- Two piece flashing and modified roof to wall metal is essential
- A structural inspection is available if deemed necessary
- Always consider walk ability prior to choosing a tile roof
Cedar Shakes
Class "A" Fire Rated shake installations utilize a 72# mineral surfaced base sheet under the felt membrane with a Class "B" treated shake.
- Installed with a ten inch exposure
- 22" type 30 ASTM felt interlayment
- Two galvanized staples per shake
- Best if installed over spaced sheathing
- Shake systems can have Class "A" "B" or "C" fire ratings
- Thickness varies from medium shake (1/2") to heavy shake (3/4") to premium grade (1")
- Select 80% edge grain or Premium 100% clear heart wood
